פמיניזם וטכנולוגיה של הגוף: מגדרו של הסייבורג ותבניות דיכוטומיות

מבוא
הסייבורג הוא חיבור בין גוף אנושי למכונה. [1] נושא המחקר הוא ההשלכות המגדריות העולות מן הסיטואציה של המרתו של הגוף האנושי בסייבורג. בעבודה זו אבחן את הנשיות והגבריות כמאורגנות על ידי תבניות דיכוטומיות של קליטה וארגון עולם, אל מול האופציה של ארגון נשיות וגבריות דרך סכמות אוטופיות המנסות לנסח תבניות שאינן דיכוטומיות. אבדוק מהו הקשר בין תבניות דיכוטומיות לבין ארגון העולם וכן האם וכיצד מייצרות תבניות דיכוטומיות הדרה של האחר ובעקבות זאת מקבעות את מקומה הנמוך היררכית של האשה. סיטואצית הסייבורג מעניינת ורלוונטית בהקשר זה משום שמתוך עיסוק בה ניתן לנתח ולהבין באופן ברור את דרך המחשבה הבינארית המציבה את המאפיינים המגדריים הגברים כדיכוטומיים למאפיינים המגדריים הנשיים. אבחן את סיטואצית הסייבורג ומגדרו דרך ניתוח מוצרים תרבותיים מן הספרות, הקולנוע, האמנות והרפואה.
נקודת המוצא של המחקר אינה מתיחסת למגדר כאל מלה המייצגת היסטוריה או תרבות של נשים כמו, למשל, דרך השאלה מהו מספר הנשים ההנדסאיות (את זאת אשאיר למחקרים אחרים). נקודת המוצא גורסת כי קטגוריית מגדר הוא כלי אנאליטי שמיש המאפשר אופן נוסף של ניתוח והבנה של התרבות ושל מערכת היחסים בין התרבות לטכנולוגיה ובין הגוף האנושי למכונה. אשתמש במגדר ככלי המקנה זווית ראיה וטכניקה נוספת לחקירה והבנת נושאים מוכרים. השיקול המגדרי והחיבורים שהוא מחייב בין התחומים השונים, מאפשרים נקודת מבט שונה ולכן מסקנות שונות הנובעות ממנה. כך, מגוון התחומים בהם אעסוק מהווה מרחב ידע רב מדיסציפלינות שונות, ידע שהוא פרגמנטרי ומחולק למחלקות אקדמיות שונות. המחקר המגדרי מאפשר זווית ראיה וטכניקה שונה למחקר והבנת נושאים מוכרים. כלי זה והמעברים שיבצע המחקר בין תחום לתחום מאפשרים את נקודת המבט השונה והמסקנות הנובעות ממנה. כאשר ההיסטוריונית ג'ון סקוט כתבה: "Gender: A useful category of historical analysis", [2] היא הכירה בכך שתאוריות מגדר עשויות להיות מועילות וניתן להשתמש בהן כגישות מרכזית להבנת נושאים חשובים בדיסציפלינה בה היא עוסקת. סיבה נוספת לשימוש בכלי המגדרי הינו התפקיד המרכזי אותו ממלא משחק המגדר באינטראקציה של אנושיות עם טכנולוגיה ובמקביל - היותה של הטכנולוגיה בתרבות המערב קריטית להבניית זהויותיהם של נשים וגברים.
בכדי להשתמש בכלי הניתוח המגדרי ברצוני להגדירו. מגדר עשוי להיות מוגדר במספר דרכים [3]:
לרוב מגדר הוא מכלול של רעיונות על נשיות ועל גבריות והתזוזות בגבולות ביניהם.
נשיות וגבריות כמוגדרות דרך אינטראקציות חברתיות.
מגדר הוא גם מערכת מישמוע המוצמדת לפעולות, אוביקטים ובני אדם.
בנוסף להיותו חלק מזהות אישית או מוסדית מובנית מתפקד המגדר באופן סימבולי ומטאפורי: לדוגמא, לאמר שפעילות טכנולוגית מסויימת היא באופן סימבולי נשית במגדרה, אין משמעו שגברים לעולם לא מבצעים פעילות זו. [4]
ניתוח מגדרי הוא כלי שימושי במחקר זה ממספר סיבות. ראשית, אם המבצעים המסורתיים של חקר הטכנולוגיה מזוהים כגבריים, משום שגברים מזוהים באופן מסורתי כהוגים, מייצרים ומשתמשים בטכנולוגיה, הרי שחקר הגבריות יוביל להבנות חדשות של אבני היסוד של התרבות והאידאולוגיה. שנית, הכלי המגדרי מנתח את הדרך בה הדברים מיוצרים ונעשים, כלומר - מה נבחר לבדיקה או לייצור ומה נשפט כראוי לבדיקה ולייצור, מה שמאתגר את ההנחות הקונבנציונאליות על מה נחשב כטכנולוגיה ומה לא, ומהן טכנולוגיות חשובות למחקר ומה לא. פירוק הגבולות המסורתיים הללו חושף את מרכזיות הצומת בו טכנולוגיה ותרבות נפגשים [5] ; בנוסף צומת זו היא גם האתר בו מכוננים אספקטים מרכזיים של הבניית מערכות מגדר. הבדלים מגדריים אינם מיוצרים ללא סיבה; הם תולדה של ומשרתים של הקשרים היסטוריים, טכנולוגים, פילוסופים ותרבותיים מסויימים ובסופו של דבר הם מכוננים על ידי בני אדם. המחקר ישאל שאלות על היחסים בין המגדר לטכנולוגיה. מטרת המחקר לשאול: כיצד נתפס בתרבות המאה העשרים הגוף האנושי אל מול המכונה, האם השתנתה תפישה תרבותית זו לאור השינויים הטכנולוגיים העכשויים? האם ישנה אופציה לתפישה שונה את הגוף לתפוש אותו כסייבורג, והאם תפישה זו מעניקה לנו תובנות ומשמעויות שונות לגבי הבינאריות של גוף מול מכונה?
הפרק הראשון ידון בתפישה התרבותית של הגוף האנושי מול התפישה התרבותית של המכונה, דרך סקירה של דיסציפלינות שונות: פילוסופיה, היסטוריה ותרבות. החלק השני של פרק זה ידון בבינאריות "מכונה מול אנוש": הצגת האופן בו נתפשת המכונה כאופוזיציה בינארית דיכוטומית לאדם.
הפרק השני יתמקד בתפישתן של גישות פמיניסטיות את הבינאריות. אתיחס לדיכוטומיה "אסנציאליזם מול קונסטרוקטוביזם" אצל פאס, הדיכוטומיה "מין מול מגדר" אצל באטלר, והדיכוטומיה "גוף מול מכונה" אצל הראוואי.
הפרק השלישי ידון בניתוח מקרה הסייבורג; הבינאריות כמכוננת את ההבנה והתפישה המגדרית. כאן אבהיר מהו הסייבורג ואבצע ניתוח של דימוי הסייבורג דרך דיסציפלינות שונות: ספרות, אמנות, קולנוע ורפואה.
הפרק המסכם יתמקד בפיענוח תופעות שעלו במהלך החקירה לגבי דיכוטומיה ומגדר, וכן אתיחס למסקנות שהופקו מן המחקר.
